ABOUT THE ARTIST

ABOUT THE ARTIST
Artist and Designer Cindy Williams, exudes an aura of quiet confidence and dignity. Upon closer examination, the native Washingtonian packs several artistic power punches and an extensive track record of creative accomplishments.
Her artistic development began at an early age.
Since childhood, Cindy has always been passionate about painting and turning ordinary materials into something extraordinary. A pioneer as the first vocational student to receive a scholarship to Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, NY, Cindy’s only regret was not attending the couture program. Instead, she became a flight attendant for two years. Later, she honed her skills in haute couture fashion design under the tutelage of the iconic founders of the National Association of Fashion Accessory Designers (NAFAD), affectionately known as her “NAFAD ladies.” Cindy’s boundless artistry has defined her as a visual artist, one of a kind signature fashion and wearable art designer, craft artist, greeting card designer, doll maker and business owner. She also has an extensive background in tailoring, and pattern making.
Anyone visiting the Takoma Theater or Takoma Station Jazz Club likely remembers “Just One Boutique,” where they could find masterfully crafted, one-of-a-kind fashions and accessories. Cindy’s boutique was a haven for patrons seeking to make bold, independent fashion statements with stunning designs and fabrics from around the world. Just One also provided a platform for emerging fashion and accessory designers to showcase their creative talents and gain exposure. Over the years, Cindy has built a diverse customer base, including many with walk-in closets full of her creations. She has designed standout fashions for stage performers and numerous organizations, including Links, AKA, Delta, and many more.
Her paintings and wearable art have been featured in magazines and many exhibits including the Smithsonian, Children’s National Medical Center and multiple art galleries. Today, Cindy continues her masterful creation of artworks from her studio. She is also well noted for her signature mixed media pieces.
